discussions for 2024-2025

December 12April 1865 by Jay Wink. A brilliant new look at the Civil War’s final days that will forever change the way we see the war’s end and the nation’s new beginning. The book is a triumph for both students of the Civil War and anyone looking for a compelling read.
January 16The Fish That Ate The Whole Whale by Rich Cohen. The fascinating untold tale of Samuel Zemurray, the self-made banana mogul who went from penniless roadside banana peddler to kingmaker and capitalist revolutionary.
February 20Frozen River by Ariel Lawson. A gripping historical mystery based on a true story of an 18th-century midwife. Great characters and plot lines.
March 20Watford Forever by John Preston and Elton John. John, a Watford football (soccer) fan from age 6, was obsessed with the game and the Watford team and bought it in 1976. Together with a brilliant young manager, Graham Taylor, they saved the club, the town and each other.
April 17Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride. A charming, captivating murder mystery set in a rural town in the ’70s. A national bestseller and award winner. It’s a fine yarn with compelling dialog.
